Scout unique locations
Arizona is home to a multitude of breathtaking locations, from iconic landmarks to hidden gems. When I moved to Arizona back in 2021, I had spent the summer prior backpacking over 200+ miles in Washington State. I am an outdoor enthusiast first, photographer second. So I like to explore beyond the beaten path to discover secluded canyons, hard to reach campsites, and picturesque desert landscapes that will set your proposal photos apart.
My favorite spots in Arizona that require a little more effort (and 4x4!)
Havasupi Falls
Grand Canyon North Rim
Beaver Creek
West Clear Creek
Edge of the World
Schnebly Hill Road & Merry Go Round Rock, Sedona
3. Utilize rivers and lakes
Many people are surprised to come to the desert to see our many lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. Arizona offers ample opportunities for capturing stunning reflections in the water. The Salt River in Arizona's Tonto National Forest provides a stunning natural backdrop for a memorable proposal. This 52-mile stretch of the river, known as the "Lower Salt River", is renowned for its serene beauty and abundant wildlife.
If you are visiting AZ in the hottest months (May-September) it can get above 110°, so I always try to be near water to keep my couples from overheating. Plus getting in the river makes for stunning photos!
4. Watch the weather
Arizona's weather can be unpredictable, with sudden rainstorms and dramatic cloud formations adding an element of surprise. Keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to adapt your plans accordingly.
5. Highlight the city
Arizona is home to a wealth of architectural treasures, historic structures and sleek modern buildings. We can use these distinctive landmarks as backdrops for your photoshoot to add character and charm to your images. The Global Ambassador is a brand new elegant hotel that is truly remarkable and would be the perfect backdrop for engagement and elopement photos.
Some other notable buildings that could be great proposal locations:
Downtown Phoenix near Pizza Bianco there are many historic brick buildings, the Audubon Society is an educational nature centerz and you can’t go wrong with Old City Hall.
6. Respect the environment
When photographing in Arizona's natural landscapes, always practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize your impact on the environment. Stay on designated trails, pack out any trash, and avoid disturbing wildlife.
7. Tell your story
Ultimately, the most special proposal will feel authentic to you both as a couple, and provide a unique story that you will love to tell over and over. (Because trust me, you will be telling it for the rest of your life!) If you hire me as your proposal planner, I will always strive to capture real moments that evoke emotion and create lasting memories.
