Arizona is known for its spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Take advantage of the soft, golden light during the hour after sunrise and before sunset to add warmth and depth.

Arizona is home to a multitude of breathtaking locations, from iconic landmarks to hidden gems. When I moved to Arizona back in 2021, I had spent the summer prior backpacking over 200+ miles in Washington State. I am an outdoor enthusiast first, photographer second. So I like to explore beyond the beaten path to discover secluded canyons, hard to reach campsites, and picturesque desert landscapes that will set your proposal photos apart.

3. Utilize rivers and lakes

Many people are surprised to come to the desert to see our many lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. Arizona offers ample opportunities for capturing stunning reflections in the water. The Salt River in Arizona's Tonto National Forest provides a stunning natural backdrop for a memorable proposal. This 52-mile stretch of the river, known as the "Lower Salt River", is renowned for its serene beauty and abundant wildlife.

If you are visiting AZ in the hottest months (May-September) it can get above 110°, so I always try to be near water to keep my couples from overheating. Plus getting in the river makes for stunning photos!

4. Watch the weather

Arizona's weather can be unpredictable, with sudden rainstorms and dramatic cloud formations adding an element of surprise. Keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to adapt your plans accordingly.

5. Highlight the city

Arizona is home to a wealth of architectural treasures, historic structures and sleek modern buildings. We can use these distinctive landmarks as backdrops for your photoshoot to add character and charm to your images. Some other notable buildings that could be great proposal locations:
Downtown Phoenix near Pizza Bianco there are many historic brick buildings, the Audubon Society is an educational nature centerz and you can’t go wrong with Old City Hall.

When photographing in Arizona's natural landscapes, always practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize your impact on the environment. Stay on designated trails, pack out any trash, and avoid disturbing wildlife.
